Getting started in social care

If you are new to social care and want further advice or support before making the decision to work in a social care environment, we have developed a pathway so you can undertake a level 1 introduction to social care course.

You will be working with our Employment Hub and Calderdale Adult Learning, who can support you on your journey.

The Employment Hub supports people 16 years old and over to find work training and apprenticeships. The Hub is part of Calderdale Council.

If you have worked in social care before but need support, the Employment Hub can help with the following:

  • Appraising and talking about your skills with confidence
  • Writing a strong CV and covering letter
  • Searching and applying for jobs
  • Completing forms
  • Preparing for an interview.

If you need to build your confidence, get experience and improve your CV, we can help you with this and help you to find work trials.

Our specialist advisors can help you to find your ideal career and support you with:

  • A change in career
  • Becoming self-employed
  • Find opportunities for promotion
  • Changing your job.

If you are not quite ready for work, we can offer mentoring support. This will help you to increase your confidence, develop your CV and improve your skills. It will also enable you to be ready for work when the time is right. We also work with some great partners and can connect you to the support you may need, such as:

  • Budgeting courses
  • Housing support
  • Childcare support
  • Training
